Jessica Handy-Burris’ practice primarily focuses on helping families and business owners enhance their lives today and secure their future tomorrow. Jessica believes everyone,
regardless of their net worth, should complete and routinely update their estate planning documents to protect their legacy and loved ones. Unintended financial consequences and family discord can easily result from a lack of direction and confusion about who is authorized to act for the deceased or incapacitated. Jessica is a 2023-2025 Emerging Leader for the Chicago Estate Planning Council, a multi-disciplinary organization founded in 1938 that supports the team concept of estate and wealth planning. Jessica is also a member of the Council’s Diversity Committee where she shares her passion for educating and serving her community on the value of wealth generation and the importance of leaving a legacy for the efficient and meaningful transfer of wealth.

Additionally, Jessica volunteers with the Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL) to provide free legal services to low-income seniors and persons with disabilities who reside in Chicago and suburban Cook County, Illinois. Jessica is also a Chicago Bar Foundation, Justice Entrepreneurs Project (JEP) participant where herself, amongst a network of other dedicated lawyers, are empowered to establish socially conscious and innovative law practices serving everyday people. 

 

All in all, Jessica combines her legal expertise, community advocacy, and acute business acumen to assist her clients in planning for the creation, growth, and success of their businesses. Jessica is the owner of Princess J Travels, LLC, a luxury travel company founded in 2021 designed to educate, enrich, and empower the African American community through world travel and a part-owner of Burris & Sons Heating Cooling and Plumbing, a HVAC company that has been operating in the Chicagoland area for over 50 years. Jessica also serves on the Executive Board for Handy House Inc., a non-profit organization committed to giving low-income individuals structured shelter, food education, self-motivation, and money management training. Furthermore, the Law Office of Jessica Handy-Burris handles personal injury, real estate, family law, landlord evictions, and traffic law cases. Jessica is a licensed real estate broker in the state of Illinois and may serve as either your realtor or closing attorney.
